Blog Feeding Pennsylvania Statement on Senate Budget Reconciliation Bill July 2, 2025 Feeding Pennsylvania Statement on behalf of its nine member food banks. HARRISBURG, PA (7/2/25) — More than 1.7 million Pennsylvanians lack access to the food they need. This includes seniors struggling to make ends meet at the end of the month, veterans who served our country, and children who deserve a chance to live healthy lives. Pennsylvanians deserve a Commonwealth united in providing solutions that ensure our neighbors have access to the healthcare and food they need to thrive in our communities. The Senate-passed reconciliation bill does the opposite. It limits access for millions of Pennsylvanians by cutting Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), pushing more of our residents into poverty. These cuts to SNAP threaten support for more than two million people in Pennsylvania alone, including over half a million children and 300,000 seniors. Hundreds of thousands of people could lose some or all of their benefits. Rural communities and children will be most impacted. The proposed SNAP cuts would take 396 million meals from Pennsylvanians each year and kick thousands off the program altogether. Last year, the entire Feeding Pennsylvania network of food banks and pantries distributed 188 million meals. Simply put, Pennsylvania’s charitable food network will be unable to keep up with the rising need. Cutting SNAP and other federal nutrition programs does nothing to solve hunger; it only harms our communities and imperils our neighbors. By passing this bill, Congress breaks its decades-long promise to fully fund SNAP benefits for struggling American families. Feeding Pennsylvania urges members of the House not to leave Pennsylvanians behind and to vote against harmful cuts to SNAP and Medicaid.
