Urge Congress to Protect SNAP Benefits

Two million Pennsylvanians are at risk of losing access to the food assistance they depend on. Because of the federal government shutdown, Pennsylvania cannot distribute November’s SNAP payments—cutting off $366 million in monthly benefits that help families, seniors, and children put food on the table.

SNAP provides nine meals for every one distributed by food banks. Without it, our charitable food network cannot meet the rising need alone.

Now is the time for Congress to act. Add your voice today and tell your representatives that no Pennsylvanian should lose access to food because of gridlock in Washington.

For Food Banks and Pantries

Urge State Lawmakers to PASS A Budget

Pennsylvania’s charitable food network is facing an unprecedented challenge. Nearly five months into the state budget impasse, food banks and pantries across are operating without essential funding from the State Food Purchase Program (SFPP) and the Pennsylvania Agricultural Surplus System (PASS), two programs that help keep fresh, local food flowing to our communities.

At the same time, the federal government shutdown is set to cause a lapse in SNAP benefits, leaving an enormous gap that Pennsylvania’s already strained charitable food system simply cannot fill alone.

We need our state lawmakers to return to Harrisburg and pass a budget that restores SFPP and PASS funding and ensures every Pennsylvanian has access to nutritious food.

If you work in or partner with a food bank, pantry, or meal program, your voice carries weight. Contact your legislators and tell them about the challenges you are facing and what that means for their constituents that you serve.
