Blog Feeding Pennsylvania calls for collective response to rising food insecurity this Hunger Action Month September 1, 2025 Throughout our history, Pennsylvanians have united to drive change and support their communities in times of need. This September, during Hunger Action Month, Feeding Pennsylvania and food banks across the Commonwealth will raise awareness and inspire action. Food insecurity in Pennsylvania has increased by over forty percent in the last two years, with over 1.7 million people facing hunger, including one in six children. Food insecurity impacts every community across Pennsylvania, ranging from a low of 9.2 percent in Chester County to a high of 17.9 percent in Cameron County. Hunger in America is a crisis at a time when the cost of basic needs like groceries and health care is out of reach for millions. Together, we can meet this moment. “Every day, our food banks witness the challenges that hardworking families face in putting food on the table. Food banks are confronted with increasing demand even as funding and resources diminish,” said Julie Bancroft, CEO of Feeding Pennsylvania. “Now is the time to unite and amplify the voices of those experiencing food insecurity, inspiring everyone to act in the movement to end hunger.” Activities are happening throughout Pennsylvania all month long.
