Save SNAP SNAP cuts = 9.5 billion meals at risk That’s more than the entire Feeding America network of food banks, meal programs, and church pantries provided last year. Right now, Congress is considering dramatic cuts to SNAP, SNAP-Ed, Medicaid, and Medicare programs that help families put food on the table and get needed medical care. If this bill passes, even more of our neighbors could face hunger and lose access to health care. Take action today!Take Action on SNAPTake Action on SNAP-EdShare Your Story SNAP CUTS PUT PENNSYLVANIA Families and Seniors at Risk Families, seniors, and veterans in our community work hard every day to build better lives – but they need a strong foundation to succeed. Access to food and health care is that foundation. 2 million people in Pennsylvania benefit from SNAP, including 591,000 children and 344,000 seniors. SNAP is the nation’s most effective program for addressing hunger. It’s temporary, targeted and supports people through short-term challenges. By protecting and improving programs like SNAP and Medicaid, we can ensure every person has the chance to live a healthy, thriving life. But proposed cuts will put Pennsylvanians at risk: Rising Costs, Reduced Access: Lawmakers want states to pay more for SNAP. If your state’s budget runs out, families in your community could lose food assistance. That could mean children go to school hungry, and seniors skip meals to afford rent. Red Tape Creates Delays: New rules and more steps would make it harder for eligible people, especially seniors and working parents, to get the help they qualify for. Those delays stretch tight budgets even further. $6.16/Day is Barely Enough: SNAP already gives just $6.16/day for the average person—barely enough for a basic breakfast. With cuts, families often skip buying the fresh, nutritious food they want and we all need to stay healthy.text Food of Medicine: The proposed bill could mean higher out-of-pocket costs and treatment delays. Many seniors and families could be forced to choose between rationing insulin or feeding their loved ones. Pennsylvania food banks distributed 187.5 million meals last year. With cuts, Pennsylvania families could lose 396 million meals. That’s 208.5 million more meals than food banks distributed last year. Our food banks – while incredibly effective – cannot replace the scale of federal programs. As Congress considers the biggest cuts to SNAP in history, YOU can use your voice to make a difference. Tell Congress: Protect SNAP! SNAP Fuels Pennsylvania’s Economy Every $1 of SNAP that is spent generates $1.54 of economic activity. SNAP isn’t just good policy – it’s a good investment that strengthens local economies – particularly in rural areas – by supporting family-owned grocery stores, farmers’ markets and food retailers. The dollars spent go right back into local communities through grocery stores, farmers’ markets and small retailers. In 2024 SNAP supported more than 19,060 jobs, contributed $958 million in wages and generated over $188 million in federal and state tax revenue in PA. 0 k Jobs Supported $ 0 m Wages Generated $ 0 m Tax Revenue SNAP-Ed saves money, stretches dollars, and makes our communities healthier. SNAP-Ed helps families eat healthier, stretch food budgets farther, and move more. Through schools, food pantries & local organizations, it supports real change in communities. Millions rely on SNAP-Ed to build skills that support lifelong health. Every $1 invested in SNAP-Ed can save up to $10.64 in future healthcare costs.
