Feeding PA Visits the Hill
February 26 –
Over 1,000 hunger advocates from across the country convened in Washington DC over a weekend in February to share ideas and strategies on how to best serve clients facing hunger at the National Anti-Hunger Policy Conference, co-sponsored by Feeding America and the Food Research & Action Center.  An integral part of this conference was a visit to Capitol Hill to meet with our State Representatives and Senators.  We met with staffers from the offices of Rep. Lloyd Smucker, Rep. Dan Meuser, Rep. Scott Perry, Senator Toomey, and with Senator Casey himself to end the day.  At these meetings we touched on the importance of SNAP, the Child Nutrition Reauthorization, and PASS which are all vital programs to the food banking network.

Did you Hear the PA Crunch?!
March 6 –  Feeding Pennsylvania and schools across the state participated in Hear the PA Crunch! in recognition of National School Breakfast Week.  We were joined by First Lady Frances Wolf at Elmwood Academy in Mechanicsburg to take a bite out of an apple with their students.  In addition to the approximately 40 participating schools, elected officials, the Pennsylvania Department of Education, and various Feeding PA supporters around the state participated in the Crunch with us, resulting in a huge success for the first Hear the PA Crunch! event.  We look forward to growing this event in the coming years!

Blocking Hunger with PA Pork Producers
April 16 – Our food banks recently received a total of 5,427 lbs of pork product thanks to the PA Pork Producers Council’s Sack Hunger and Block Hunger programs with Penn State University Athletics.  The Council donates 50 lbs of pork for every sack made by the Penn State Nittany Lions football team, and 25 lbs for every block made by the basketball team.  Thanks to Leidy’s Simply Delicious Pork Products and the PA Pork Producers Council, families and individuals across the state will receive high quality locally sourced pork!

How Does Pennsylvania Rank in Health Nationwide?
April 25 – We recently attended a meeting held by UnitedHealth Group to discuss Pennsylvania’s overall health ranking with emphasis on the current state of obesity in the Commonwealth.  According to the UnitedHealth Foundation, Pennsylvania ranks 26th in the nation for obesity.  We are working with the Pennsylvania Department of Health on the Healthy Pantry Initiative which will help to combat obesity and promote health and wellness in food pantries throughout the state.  Feeding Pennsylvania is excited to work with local and state organizations to work towards making a healthier Pennsylvania.
